I imagine you’ve heard the saying, “work smarter, not harder.” Every product or service we offer will take you one-step closer toward your dream of personal success and achievement.
Since you’re just starting out, it’s important to begin on the right path. I suggest you follow tried- and-true guiding principles that made other businesses successful.
I’ve found through my coaching the single largest deficit bakers have is their lack of marketing skills. They are tremendous bakers and cake artists, but their knowledge of sales and marketing is their “Achilles’ heel.”
For example, when a wedding cake baker tells me their advertising on the “knot” or “Wedding Wire” doesn’t get them results, it typically has nothing to do with those platforms. It’s usually a lack of marketing skills. (It’s a common problem I fix all the time.)
As another example, many bakers complain that after they give their price for a particular wedding cake design, the bride says, “WOW, I didn’t think it was going to cost that much.” The reaction from those brides, once again indicates a lack of sales or marketing skills.
Here’s the solution. For the first 2-years, apply 20% of your work-week to marketing. (Which includes the time you spend increasing your marketing skills.)
If you follow that simple proven formula…great things are sure to follow.
Here’s my suggestions to begin increasing your marketing and sales skills.
- Go to the “home-page” and register to receive a FREE one-year subscription to my “Insider Advisory.” The monthly report may be a little difficult to follow when you’re new, but it’s an important part of your on-going education.
- Depending on your business acumen, “Cracking the Secret Code That Unlocks Your Wedding Cake Sales” should be at least considered. If you feel it’s too early for learning advanced techniques, take a pass until you’re in the “Maintain” phase of your business.
- If you decide to take a pass on suggestion number 2, I’d advise you to begin your education by acquiring the “Foundational Building Block Presentations.” They are a wonderful starting point, so you can wrap your mind around what it takes to be and stay successful.
- The on-line training for the “Master Hierarchy Wedding Cake Business Course” is not quite finished. When it does come available, take it immediately. As someone new to the industry, you’ll receive the most benefit out of it. Plus, it’s exactly what you need as a path for years of prosperity. If your budget allows, take the course now through Ed’s mentoring program.
- Choose a block of consulting time. Every baker who is new to selling wedding cakes, is the person who, needs the most assistance. Reading tips on Google, watching YouTube videos and having your ICES friends explain how to sell wedding cakes, will at best give you average results. Having an expert who is just a phone call away to guide you toward attaining superior results is a better choice.
